Advance Auto Parts Monster Jam Thunder Nationals
The world’s most popular and spectacular monster truck series returns to the Pensacola Civic Center March 2-3, 2011 bigger and better than ever! Advance Auto Parts Monster Jam Thunder Nationals, as seen on Speed Channel, features the world’s premier monster trucks including Grave Digger, Monster Mutt, Virginia Giant, and Florida natives Reptoid (Milton, Fla.), Bad News (Clearwater, Fla.) and Instigator (Kissimmee, Fla.).
The monster trucks will engage in four separate competitions: the sky-wheelie contest, the donut contest, the freestyle competition, and head-to-head racing. The sky-wheelie contest will consist of each truck hitting the crush cars in an attempt to get the front tires as high as possible. The donut contest will give each truck the chance to pull off the most dynamic donut. If executed correctly, one of the trucks could put together a “cyclone”, where all four wheels are going around at the same time.
The Monster Jam freestyle competition gives the trucks the chance to run wild with the goal being to be the most crowd-pleasing. The trucks will attempt sky wheelies, cyclone style donuts, and possibly a roll over. The monster truck racing segment will feature two trucks racing head to head in tournament style fashion until a nightly champion is crowned.
Tickets are on sale now! Show time for Friday is 7:30pm; Saturday features two performances with the first at 2:00pm and the second at 7:30pm. Saturday’s 2:00pm show will also feature the Party in the Pits from 11:30am-1:00pm. Patrons will need a valid Saturday event ticket along with a pit party pass available for free at participating Southern Ford Dealers. Passes will not be available until February 6th. Pit party passes will also be available at the box office the day of the show for $10.00 for adults and $5.00 for children.
For more information about Monster Jam, log on to www.monsterjam.com.
Ticket prices are $23 and $28 for adults. Tickets for children ages 2-12 are $6.50. All seats increase $2 more the day of the event. Group discounts available, call 432-0800 x223 for more information. Straight No Chaser
If the phrase "male a cappella group" conjures up an image of students in blue blazers, ties, and khakis singing traditional college songs on ivied campuses... think again. Straight No Chaser (SNC) are neither strait-laced nor straight-faced, but neither are they vaudeville-style kitsch. As original member Randy Stine comments, "We take the music very seriously; we just don't take ourselves too seriously." In the process, they are reinventing the idea of a cappella on the modern pop landscape.
In an era when so much pop music is the product of digital processing and vocal pro-tooling, Straight No Chaser is the real deal - the captivating sound of ten unadulterated human voices coming together to make extraordinary music that is moving people in a fundamental sense... and with a sense of humor.
